One night, she went to a bar and noticed a woman who looked pretty miserable. Montoya struck a conversation with that woman, Katherine Kane. Kane enjoyed herself and even laughed. A drunk woman bumped into Montoya at the bar to order another round. Kane noticed her holstered handgun and asked if she was a cop. Montoya replied she was a detective and asked if she had a problem with that. Kane admitted she didn't but was surprised someone as hot as her was a detective. Montoya was amused. The embarrassed Kane was interrupted when she got an anonymous text from Dick Grayson, who was temporarily Batman at the time, to meet him on the roof across the street. Kane gave Montoya her card and asked to call her. Montoya was skeptical but Kane admitted she really liked her.

After the World Tech Summit incident, Katherine conveyed information to her father Colonel Kane from Grayson that the brainwashing programming can't be reset once its broken. Kane admitted he was proud of her and later mother and sister Gabrielle and Elizabeth would be, too. Katherine went to answer the door to find Renee Montoya. Montoya mused she was a little early, but Kane said she was right on time and invited her in.
