DC Comics is an comic book company owned by National Allied Publications, Inc., a division of DC Entertainment, Inc.
DC counts among its characters such well-known properties as Superman, the Batman, Wonder Woman, the The Justice League, Green Lantern, The Flash, Hawkman, Robin, the Aquaman and many others. Most of DC's fictional characters are depicted as inhabitants of a single shared reality; this continuity is known as the DC Universe.
The comic book arm of the company was founded in 1934 as National Allied Publications. DC's modern incarnation dates from the early 1930s, with the launching of Superman and other superhero titles created by Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster, Bob Kane and others. DC has since become one of the largest American comics companies, along with Marvel Comics.
